Over on my new favorite site, HyperVocal, I’ve just posted a piece about why Democrats and progressives — President Obama, are you listening? — should use the phrase “debt floor” instead of debt ceiling. Because, in short, government — and the money that funds it — provides an important floor of opportunity and assistance for all of us.
When the economy is strong, conservatives want to cut taxes for the rich. When the economy is weak, conservatives want to cut taxes for the rich. When a mentally insane man with easy access to guns tries to assassinate a sitting Member of Congress, conservatives twist all logic to argue for even easier access to guns — while cutting taxes.
Sometimes it takes a cartoon to show how silly real life is.
Watch and share:
In the WTF? category of political rhetoric, gun nuts have again come out saying that if there had been MORE private citizens with guns on the scene in Tucson, Arizona, fewer people would have been hurt. Yeah, that makes sense — more guns, fewer bullets fired…
I wrote a piece about this for Hypervocal. You can read it here.
I was on Fox and Friends this past weekend, defending the role of our federal government in coming to the aid of states facing natural disasters. Kind of one of those simple, no-brainer things our federalist system was created to do but… these days, when talking about tax dollars, helps to remind ourselves why our nation was founded in the first place.

We need more progressive voices not just talking about the news, but using the
news to talk about progressive worldview — the core values and principles at
the heart of our national story.
I have a piece up over on Alan Colmes’ Liberaland championing WikiLeaks for threatening to leak secret documents obtained from Bank of America. Can’t wait…
Here’s an excerpt of my post:
“It’s a shame that Congress and the White House are so deeply stuffed in the pockets of Wall Street they rarely generate serious and toothy investigations themselves. Fortunately, WikiLeaks is shaping up to be a modern-day Robin Hood of information freedom. For the millions of homeowners who are stuck in underwater, predatory loans while Bank of America took public bailouts and is now handing out (once again) record bonuses, justice WikiLeaks-style can’t come too soon.”
You can read the entire, short piece here.
