Understanding #OccupyWallSt [FoxNews.com]
The protesters are not anti-American radicals. They are the defenders of the American Dream, the decision from the birth of our nation that success should be determined by hard work not royal bloodlines.

I was nodding my head the entire time I read your article. Not familiar with your work I was worried I’d get to the part where it went from reading like you supported OWS to tearing them down, but that didn’t happen & it was wonderful to Finally read something that makes sense about what is really going on economically in this country. Thank you, thank you, thank you for a great article!
Thank you for nicely articulating what the protesters are unable to. Thank you for a well written article. Mike in Michigan
Oh, you’re interested in what? Making the world save for what, for a Jewish police state, a state controlled press, and other patriot acts. Jewish America Moms tell Israel “NOT IN MY NAME will you kill and say its God’s Will. God doesnt love Jewish kids anymore than he loves Arab ones.
Let me tell you what the Victory of the Protests will look like. Cant you read the signs as well as I. STOP THESE WARS. IF ISRAEL WANTS TO BOMB IRAN, LET THEM…BUT NOT IN OUR NAME! IRAN HAS DONE NOTHING TO US BUT TALK BACK TO THE ISRAELI FANATICS WHO WANT OUR MILITARY TO GO IN AND DO TO THEM WHAT LYING BUSH DID TO THE IRAQIS. EVER SEE A KID WITH BLOODY STUMPS WHERE HIS LEGS WERE? GO LOOK. AND THEN BAWL OUT THE PROTESTERS.
Thank you for writing this article! Honestly, I was amazed to find something like this connected to Fox News.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Jo – Have you considered decaf?
I stoped reading her article in the middle of the second paragraph, when she said that American productivity increases are the result of Americans are working harder. The one has utterly no connection to the other. That is the kind of an incredibly sloppy reasoning process that onbviates the credibility of anything she might further write.

And “onbviates” pretty much negates the credibility of anything you might write, but I’m still addressing the substance of your comment . . .
American productivity increases are at least in part the result of Americans working harder, as well as smarter – we pretty much lead the industrialized nations of the world in terms of hours worked per week, while being at the bottom in terms of vacation days taken.
And last I checked, the wealthy were not manning the presses in their own factories or providing housekeeping services in their own hotels. ALL of us help them to achieve their wealth, so there is no reason why they shouldn’t pay a fairer share of the nation’s tax burden, especially when the safety net for poor Americans is being shredded by loss of tax revenues.
And jobs creation through tax breaks for the wealthy is the one thing that, in your words, “has utterly no connection to the other.” As Mitt Romney said just a few days ago, businesses will hire when there is increased demand for their products. If vast numbers of workers are unemployed, underemployed or see their wages fall behind inflation year after year (as they have done for 20 years now), they have no money with which to buy things. If they can’t buy things, demand for products does not increase. If demand for products does not increase, jobs are not created. Any one not blinded by ideology ought to be able to see that.
Pretty much everyone I know, of every age and political (even non-political) persuasion supports the Occupy Wall Street demonstrations, for various reasons, but chief among them is that our elected representatives appear to be oblivious to the needs of actual human citizens (as opposed to corporate “citizens”) in this country. It’s time for a wake-up call!
Thank you, Ms. Kohn, for articulating what this movement means.
So you’re going to lead the charge to roll back the excessive pensions, fat cat parks and zero accountability for pay versus production for the governmental employees?
Don’t know where you get your information. You are dead wrong, however. Most Republicans do not support increasing taxes on the rich, and oddly enough, most Americans support taxes because over half of them don’t have to pay taxes. Heck, I’d be a big supporter of taxes too if I didn’t pay them either but received the benefits. I’m all for fairness. Make everyone pay taxes equally.
Also, don’t you find it rather odd that this ragtag “unorganized” protest group that is sprouting grassroot groups all around the nation can manage to be well fed and have full color newspapers about events etc without anyone backing them? Or is George Soros and his multitude of socialist organizations actually behind it all? The money trail is there, so how about reporting that?
I’m with you on the banks and big business raping the rest of us, but rest assured that the folks behind this protest aren’t stopping at that. How did Van Jones put it? Oh yes, bottom up, top down, and turn everything inside out. We, the little people then get stripped of everything and every right we ever had. Welcome to Nazi America.
I worked on a naval base in a (bright) Red State, where I am virtually certain I was the only Democrat within 30 miles. And many of those folks, especially at the professional (engineer, scientist) and managerial level (mostly ex-military, and bedrock conservatives, all) stated their belief that they should be taxed at higher rates than they are now, especially given the state of the economy and the vast need of the un- and under-employed, and their families. Several even said it was their “patriotic duty” to do so.
So please do not believe you speak for the majority of Republicans. Not all of them are mean-spirited and selfish. Nobody LIKES paying taxes, but fair is fair, and our present system of taxation is patently, grossly unfair.
Ah, the Soros boogeyman again. It’s always got to be some conspiracy with you people, doesn’t it? Like as if no one can actually think for themselves and find they have the same opinions as the guy next to him. That’s impossible, right? It’s totally a puppetmaster behind all of this.
Hello Sally.
Your article has been circulating, mainly due to shock over it being published by Fox News.
Have you heard of Clay Shirky or Marshal McLuhan?
“the Occupy Wall Street protests are your best chance at fixing the broken economy that is breaking your back.”
Only a slightly better chance than sitting on your couch until they actually DO SOMETHING! Please write another piece making that connection for me. I share OWS’s sentiments whole heartedly. What good does it do me or anyone to stand around and complain together? Really? I protest the fact that I had a bad day, but that isn’t going to make me have a better day tomorrow. I have to actively make something happen to change that!
The best thing I heard recently was what Bill Clinton said on David Letterman…
“They need to be for something specific and not just against something
because if you’re just against something, somebody else will fill the
vacuum you create.”
With your article appearing on Fox News’ website, you probably caused several hundred people to have a stroke, at the very least. I hope you’re happy…their blood is on your hands.
/BTW, great article.
Kudos to you Sally for getting something that isn’t right wing propaganda on the Fox News site. I was utterly shocked to see something on Fox News that didn’t make me want to leave the planet. Keep up the good work.
Miss Kohn, its common place now that certain groups of people(progressives/marxist/communists) with an agenda will intentionally out right lie when they dont just mislead or bend the truth a tiny tad. You intentionally lied with all your statements as facts when you knew you were out right wrong or twisting facts to move opinion to shed your ideology in a better light. Heres the rub, people are out looking for and finding the truth now. Liberal news paprers, radio shows and especially entire TV stations are tanking at an enormous rate. Spin spin away little spider because the left doesnt stand a chance in the light of day. You DO know that and so do I.
Find a topic that you wont be tempted to lie about, go find actual facts, and then write a good article. You may find pleasure in telling the truth and let it become a new standard in your daily life.
