Republicans are desperately trying to varnish their new vice presidential nominee with the re-written legacy of Ronald Reagan. But Paul Ryan just doesn’t fit the mold. I discuss Paul Ryan’s record — and Reagan’s! — on America Live with Megyn Kelly, video courtesy of Fox News:

“Ronald Reagan could not get elected today,,, Republicans have moved so far to the right…Ronald Reagan would be called a socialist today…”

    Dear, Dear Sally,

Democrats like to call themselves “The party of JFK” – do you really believe John F. Kennedy would stand a ghost of a chance of winning the Democratic nomination today? Isn’t it possible that maybe, just maybe, the Democrats have moved so far to the left, that anything in the center looks like “far right” to you?

Please allow me to offer this quote for perspective, and the emphasis (in uppercase) is mine:

“I believe in an America where the free enterprise system flourishes for all other systems to see and admire – where no businessman lacks either competition or credit – and where no monopoly, no racketeer, NO GOVERNMENT BUREAUCRACY CAN PUT HIM OUT OF BUSINESS THAT HE BUILT UP WITH HIS OWN INITIATIVE.”

Believe it or not, that’s not from Ayn Rand, that’s from JFK.

On a personal note, as a Jew, every time I see you or Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, I think to myself, “Dear Lord, haven’t we suffered enough?”

  2. George Fulmore says:

What Paul Ryan is not is Latino, female or younger than 35. He also has a “plan” that is full of holes: He says that the Romney/Ryan team can lower the debt and balance the budget without raising taxes or reducing spending on defense. That is nonsense. This is the formula that led to The Great Recession. He also says that President Obama made the Recession worse. That is also nonsense. We are back up 4.5 million jobs since 2009, unemployement is down from its top of 10%, there have been 28 straight months of positive job growth and three straight years of positive gross national product gains.
The luster of Ryan will wear thin as his positions are more and more exposed. He is an ideologue, rigidly tied to principles that are extreme. The country is more sensible than to buy a used car from this guy.

  3. Garry Jantzen says:

Left of JFK? Hah! Far to the right if anything! The main complaint I hear from the left is that Obama and his administration haven’t strayed hardly at all from Bush’s prerogatives.
