Since when did fairness become a dirty word? Here’s a recent Fox News segment in which I explain how President Obama’s second term agenda to ensure equal opportunity is fully in line with public opinion and our nation’s values:

I just want to let Sally know that I like her commentary and am sorry that she has to put up with conservative robots like Ben Ferguson.

Sally I am writting you to ask you to be a little bit more understanding when comming to profiling us Republicans and or conservatives . I am a mother of 3 sons and my youngest is a marine who has served this country faithfully for 15 years so that people can say stupid stuff about each other and to tell you the truth I am sick and tired of the childest ways that our government has been acting and I mean all of them , this country is a republic and we as the people need to remenber this . I am not a person who see”s color, as far as the people who broke the law to come her should not be comparied to your grandparents because they had to stay on ellis Iland until the knew how or country came about and they had to learn english also . so now you want to let people come here and reward them for breaking the law so would you say that if one of us commited a felony we would be rewarded for that , I am just as passinate ?? I am not sure about that word so forgive me if it is wrong and I know that some people will make fun of me and frankly my dear i dont give a dam, I just want my fredooms and rights left alone and I want this government to stop spending my money for programs we dont need and believe me they would not want me to put them on a budget , thank you for listening to a grandmother of 5 that wants her babies to grow up without having debt put on them they did not create , I will pray for you and your listener and followers on the web .

Ben Ferguson is either simply misinformed or a cynical liar. Let’s give him the benefit of the doubt and say the former.

My read of Ben Ferguson is he thinks that businesses should be free to do as they please. He argues for a laissez-faire government, as if profit maximization is in some way harmonious with business ethics and social responsibility (we know it’s not, as industries such as automotive, finance, communications, energy, construction have all shown so clearly in recent years).

Meanwhile millions of Americans are left homeless as a result of unscrupulous, unregulated financiers, and so on.

Nice one, Mssrs. Ferguson, Krauthammer, Friedman, etc. Your self-regulated market is a tycoon’s fantasy. It is no more than an idealistic veil behind which to build a new aristocracy.

These pundits paint all alternative views is a hackneyed model of oppressive state control in which free enterprise is encumbered by an impossible tonnage of regulation. Yet we have seen this old chestnut is as impractical as their ideal of the altruistic capitalist.

The pragmatic solution is demonstrated best, not surprisingly among the pragmatists of northern Europe. The Nordic, German and Benelux economies have devised sensible ways of balancing capitalism and socialism to create dynamic, effective national economies. The Nordic countries were barely affected by the Banking Crisis.

Let’s just drop this idealistic garbage, the dishonest polemic posturing, and get on with finding sensible, pragmatic solutions to current problems.
