Austerity measures around the world are disproportionately punishing the poor and middle class.

How do you solve a problem like the EU…? Here’s my latest opinion piece for CNN. An excerpt:

It’s as though profligate countries such as Greece, Italy, the United Kingdom and the United States went on a decades-long bender and are just now being reined in by the moral fiscal authority. Never mind that in most civilized societies, we’ve long decided that spanking our children is an unacceptable form of punishment, not to mention ineffective. Spanking nation-states is becoming a global fad.

The only thing you need to know today, especially if you’re on the eastern seaboard, is that Republicans voted to cut FEMA’s budget by 55% this year. When disaster strikes and all the anti-government rhetoric and policymaking comes home to roost, FEMA may not be able to help Americans rebuild their homes and communities.

The storm is brought to us by Mother Nature. The disaster custom made by Republicans.

My take on the bad idea that is austerity and why Obama has to learn to lose. And Allen West messes with history. If you want to receive my adVantage Points every weekday morning in your inbox, email info@movementvision.org

Austerity #Failstory
Gutting federal spending is only worsening the economic crisis in the US and Europe. The definition of insanity is continuing to do the same thing but expecting different results. We need government stimulus as the spender of last resort.

Obama Needs To Learn How To Lose
In a column in the Chicago Tribune today, Fareed Zakaria suggests Obama should focus on non-government spending driven initiatives to create jobs, programs that can actually pass Congress not “ones that sound good on TV.” But Obama has been too focused from the start on what can actually pass, thereby putting forward tepid and ultimately ineffective proposals. It’s time to lay out a bold plan — the right plan that will turn the economy around. If the plan fails because of Republicans, Obama should turn that loss into political points with the American public.

Allen West, Disasterstory
Florida Congressman and Tea Party beloved Allen West said that black Democrats are slaves and he is their liberator Harriet Tubman. In other f*cked up revisionism, David Duke is Abraham Lincoln and Phyllis Schlafly is Betty Friedan.
